In my early day's of drawing, I didn't give much of importance to drawing supplies which affect every quality of art produced, yet I didn't give up willing to know how other artist made good portraits of they own. Nevertheless, in this segment you will get to know some essential drawing supplies to come out with great drawing such as pencils, eraser, and more, be aware it's meanly for black and white drawing.
Sketch Book
A sketch book is often plain, it's one of the most important supply of an artist needed to keep tracking of progress, In that every practical session is done within to asset from day one of drawing to whenever. For example Bristol (Strathmore Bristol). However, strathmore bristol has great features, precisely the 300 series made with a durable hard cover which will last for years, having several leaves and suitable for graphite drawings. Nonetheless, strathmore bristol doesn't works well with charcoal because of it's smooth texture.
Pencil
Pencil are of different variety out in the market. As an artist who wants to make progress, knowing the different pencil quality and types is key to grading your values. here, is the Kasimir pencil set covering a range of differing values, the 12B which is the darkest, yet 6H the least darkest.
However, a pencil set is categorized in groups H meaning the graphite is though to brake, HB means Hard and Bold making it more visible and B stand for Bold. Moreover, starting from most dark to the least 12b, 11B,... 1B, HB, 1H,... and 6H.
Eraser
A device (such as a piece of rubber or a felt pad) used to erase marks (as of ink or chalk).
Erasers have a rubbery consistency and come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors. Some pencils have an eraser on one end. Less expensive erasers are made from synthetic rubber and synthetic soy-based gum, but more expensive or specialized erasers are made from vinyl, plastic, or gum-like materials. Below are some eraser types;
The kneaded eraser, also known as a putty rubber. It is usually made of a grey or white pliable material, such as rubber and resembles putty or chewing gum. It functions by absorbing and "picking up" graphite and charcoal particles, in addition to carbon and pastel marks.
The rubber eraser is similar to kneaded eraser but differ in that, it's solid. it is used to clean graphite and charcoal, though, if harshly used it will tear your drawing paper, so a gentle rope will do the job.
Pencil Sharpener
A pencil sharpener is a tool for sharpening a pencil's writing point by shaving away its worn surface. Pencil sharpeners may be operated manually or by an It is common for many sharpeners to have a casing around them, which can be removed for emptying the pencil shavings debris into a trash bin.
An electric pencil sharpener is a small motorized appliance for sharpening or refreshing the points on lead pencils. Inside the hole, a small electric motor turns a blade assembly at high speed. The blades shave wood and lead from the pencil's end, bringing it to a point.
Blending Stump
A blending stump is a tool made of tightly rolled paper, its soft texture can help smooth out your drawing and with some graphite residue stuck to it you can even use it to draw and shade. They are very easy to use, and quite effective. Blending stumps can only be effective if you have enough pencil control to produce a smooth gradient.
Charcoal
Charcoal is a lightweight black carbon residue produced by removing water and other volatile constituents from animal and plant mater. it is often obtained by burning this matters. When using charcoal it can either be crushed or soft solid, which can easily be applied to a paper surface. However, in most case charcoal is used to darken a broad area by means of a brush or blending stump.
As mention above, these are some of a few drawing materials. Meanwhile, bearing in mind it's only for blacking and white drawing.
